Autogenic training according to Prof. Schultz

Development: Autogenic training was developed by neurologist Prof. Johannes Heinrich Schultz (1884-1970) and is based on his experience and knowledge of hypnosis were put into a relaxed state. In this connection, the patients spoke of pleasant feelings of warmth and heaviness. Schultz took up this side effect for his research. Schultz's definition of autogenic training: a self-developing (cars = from the self) (genos = to become/arise) and self-designing systematic practice.

Based on this, Schultz developed a method in which patients learn to control their physical relaxation states themselves. Objective: Autogenic training helps to counteract hectic everyday life and social pressure and builds on the knowledge that deep relaxation is an important prerequisite for performance and health. For whom is autogenic training suitable:In autogenic training, one speaks of concentrated self-relaxation and focusing on one's own body.By "concentrated" is meant: The client is in an observer position when he recites the individual formulas to himself internally , so it is a matter of "passive" concentration. The most important prerequisite is "letting things happen", that is, the client is willing to "let go" without pressure to perform or control and let the formula take effect. Basic level of autogenic training: Schultz calls 6 formulas related to organs or areas of the body. Severity

HeatRegulation of heart activityRegulation of respirationWarmness in the abdominal region/solar plexusForehead coolness

Further developments and adaptations to our society today have shown that frequent sitting results in shoulder/neck tension, so that the shoulder and neck exercise is included as an additional exercise. Autogenic training offers each individual the possibility of so-called "autogenic switching". Through imagination, i.e. self-taught ideas of relaxation reactions, the client himself brings about a pleasantly relaxed physiological body reaction. Effects of Autogenic Training: Recovery:

Rest breaks are built in. Continuous stress that can lead to psychosomatic illnesses is specifically reduced

self-restraint:

Through "concentrative self-relaxation" the client learns to consciously relax in stressful situations such as fear or anger instead of tensing up. Reactions to external events are more subdued in the relaxed organism and a healthy distance to one's own affects

self-regulation:

The client influences involuntary bodily functions such as the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract and breathing

Performance Optimization:

    Ability to concentrateMental performance

Pain control:

Pain perception and pain experience can be specifically influenced (dentist visit)

self-determination:

Self-influencing and influencing existing body reactions and symptoms
